THE RT. REVD (BARR.) TIMOTHY OLAJIDE ABIMBOLA ADEBAYO
The Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Igbomina West
The Rt. Revd Timothy Olajide Abimbola Adebayo set his feet on this planet earth on 27th October, 1958 in Ado-Ekiti, Capital of Ekiti State, to the family of Chief Michael Adebayo the Asao of Aramoko Ekiti and Mrs Mary Tewogbola Adebayo. Nee Adeoye
Immediately after Olajide was born, God set machinery in motion for his fulfillment in life by motivating his parents to enroll him in school, during the era in which many children were taken to the farm. The adventure into academic pursuit of our Bishop started with Primary Education at the Local Authority Primary School and St. James’ Anglican Primary School both in Aromoko Ekiti from 1966 to 1971. He attended the prestigious Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti for Secondary School Education from 1973 to 1978. The Polytechnic Owo, where he was awarded Higher National Diploma (Upper Credit) in Hotel and Catering Management, was the next place of call for Tertiary Education from 1979 to 1983. He bagged Diploma in Marketing and Sales Management from Transworld Tutorial College, Jersey, UK (1981-1983); and a Post Graduate Diploma PGD. in Public Relations from Nigeria Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba Ikeja Lagos was added to his CV in 1994.
In order to pursue the yearnings in his heart, The Rt. Revd Timothy Olajide Abimbola Adebayo was once again back in the ivory tower this time Lagos State University Ojo, Lagos (LASU) from 1998 to 2005, where he added a degree with honors in Law, LLB (Hons) to his series of qualifications. He obtained BL in 2006 upon graduation from the Nigeria Law School and a Master of Arts, MA, in Peace, and Conflict Studies, from the prestigious University of Ibadan in 2011.
Psalm 84:2 (NIV): “My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God”. The yearning of our father in the Lord, The Rt. Revd Timothy Olajide Abimbola Adebayo, for the courts of the LORD propelled him to attend the Lagos Diocesan Anglican Seminary at Broad Streets Lagos from 1996-1997, where he obtained Diploma in Theology (Dip. Th.), and now almost possessing Doctor of Ministry, D. Min at Crowther Graduate Theological Seminary, Abeokuta (2012 – date)
Our Bishop belongs to the following professional Associations: Nigeria Hotel and Catering Institute; Nigeria Institute of Public Relations; Nigeria Bar Association and Canon Law Society of America.
The Spirit of diligence in the life our Lord Bishop had taken him to different establishments where he had made impact at different level of administrative responsibilities.
These establishments are: Nigerian Students Loans Board, Lagos (Oct. – Dec. 1978); United Bank for Africa, UBA. (1978-1980); National Youth Service at the National Electric Power Authority, NEPA, Kainji Dam, Kainji (1983-1984); Floor Manager at DEJAVU Restaurant and Wine Bar, Ikoyi Lagos (1984); Lecturer at DAVOG Institute of Catering, Akure, Ondo State (1984-1985; Purchasing Officer and Ag. Head, Catering and Lodging Department at Training and Conference Centre, Ogere Nigeria (1985-1988); General Manager at CARRYFAST Nig. Ltd. Akure, (1988) and the Managing Director at J – TASTES Nig. Ltd (1988-1996).
Behind the success of our Diocesan is a virtuous, diligent and inspiring woman – FOLUKE YETUNDE ADEBAYO nee Olabintan. Our Bishop said “I DO” to Mama Igbomina West in April 1990. The marriage is excellently blessed by God with three dynamic, intelligent and vibrant godly boys: OgoOluwa, IbukunOluwa and OreOluwa
Mrs. FOLUKE YETUNDE ADEBAYO, who is a Deputy Director with the National Population Commission, Abuja, has been a source of inspiration and support to her husband during all seasons of life.
The Rt. Revd Timothy Olajide Abimbola Adebayo was made Deacon in the Diocese of Lagos in December 1997 and ordained Priest in December 1998. He was preferred a Canon in April 2007 and an Archdeacon in October 2008 by the Most Revd Dr. E.A. Adebola Ademowo. OON, FNAL,PH.D. (The Dean Emeritus of the Church of Nigeria AND Diocesan Bishop of Lagos).
Bishop Olajide was the Archbishop’s Chaplain for good Eight Years: 2000-2008. This is a testimony of his person as a very dynamic priest. Our conviction is based on the knowledge that our father, Archbishop Adebola Ademowo is a standard of Anglicanism. Just like the words of our Lord Jesus: “… You have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much…” (Mt. 25:21). He paid his due with diligence and hard work, and now God rewarded him with greatness.
In the Diocese of Lagos, where Bishop Olajide was a priest before his election as the Bishop, he served God in the following churches: Cathedral Church of Christ Marina as Cathedral Priest (1997-2003); St. David’s Church Lafiaji, Lagos as Vicar (2003-2011); Anglican Church on the Peninsula as Vicar (2011-2015)
Apart from Pastoral work in parishes, our Bishop also served in the following capacities in the Diocese of Lagos: He was Cathedral Youth Chaplain, and Evangelism Chaplain (1997- 2003); Assistant Director ELDERLY HELPLINE 1997-2000, Archdeacon of Lagoon Archdeaconry (2011- 2015); Associate Director, Directorate of Youths, Lagos Diocese (2008-2015); Assistant Registrar, Clergy Education, Lagos Diocese (2008 – 2015); Lecturer, Lagos Anglican Seminary, Broad Streets, Lagos (To date); Presenter, “HYMNS OF PRAISE” on Radio Nigeria Metro FM 97.7, Ikoyi, Lagos (2002 to date) ; Member of Supra Diocesan Board West Pension Board (2014 – 2015); Deputy Chairman of Governing Board Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye Comprehensive College Igboye, Epe. (2015); the Legal assistant to Archbishop Ephraim Ademowo Foundation. Member Directorate of Church Planting, Lagos Diocese, An international speaker with strong passion for evangelism, revival and change management, a man with zero tolerance for slothfulness and lukewarmness ever ready to take up challenges.
It was during the Church of Nigeria Standing Committee Meeting held in Akure in September 2015 that God elected his beloved son and servant, Olajide Adebayo through the House of Bishop, led by the Primate of all Nigeria, the Most Revd Nicolas D. Okoh under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to be the Bishop of the Diocese of Igbomina West. He was consequently consecrated as the Bishop of the Diocese of Igbomina West on Tuesday 24th November, 2015 at the Cathedral Church of Christ Mariana, Lagos. The consecration service was attended by all the cream in the Body of Christ and the society.
Today, History is being made once against as the second Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Igbomina West the Rt. Revd (Barr.) Jide Adebayo is enthroned.
